In a heartbreaking incident, a nine-year-old girl lost her life after being attacked by her family’s dogs. The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call on August 9, 2024, at approximately 6:31 PM, reporting the attack on the 2500 block of South Drive in Overgaard (Aripine).
The young girl, who was at home with several family members, had run outside to turn off a water spigot when the dogs attacked her. Despite the family dogs being familiar with the household and its children, they unexpectedly caused severe physical trauma to the girl. Family members, guided by Emergency Medical Dispatching (EMD) from the Show Low Regional Dispatch Center, attempted to provide medical aid, but tragically, she succumbed to her injuries.
The Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit and the Navajo County Animal Control are handling the investigation. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, further details have not been disclosed.
The community extends its heartfelt condolences to the girl’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
