Wrong-Way Driver Kills Passenger, Injures Two Others in Early Morning Glendale Crash

The collision shut down a major intersection Sunday as police launched an investigation into what caused the driver to veer into oncoming traffic.

A wrong-way driver caused a deadly two-vehicle collision in Glendale early Sunday morning, killing one person and leaving two others with serious injuries.

Officers responded around 7:30 a.m. to the intersection of 51st and Glendale avenues after reports of an erratic driver who had struck another vehicle. Glendale police were reportedly already pursuing the driver when the crash occurred. A passenger in the car that was struck was pronounced dead at the scene. Both the erratic driver and the driver of the vehicle that was hit sustained serious injuries, though neither was considered life-threatening.

The roadway near the crash site was closed in both directions while investigators worked the scene.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or disclosed whether speed or impairment contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
