World-Renowned Din Tai Fung to Open First Arizona Location at Scottsdale Fashion Square

Foodies in Arizona Can Soon Savor Chinese Classics from the Globally Celebrated Restaurant

Scottsdale is about to welcome a culinary giant as Din Tai Fung, the internationally acclaimed Chinese restaurant known for its exquisite xiao long bao, has signed a lease to open its first Arizona location at Scottsdale Fashion Square. Renowned for its delicate and flavorful soup dumplings, the Hong Kong branch of Din Tai Fung has been awarded a Michelin Star five times, and the restaurant was named one of the top ten restaurants in the world by The New York Times.

The Din Tai Fung story began in 1958 when Bing-Yi Yang and his wife, Lai Pen-Mei, opened a small cooking oil shop in Taiwan after immigrating from China. In 1970, they started making and selling xiao long bao (steamed pork soup dumplings) on the side, dedicating half of their shop to this new venture. The dumplings quickly became so popular that by 1972, the Yangs had transformed their business entirely into a full-fledged restaurant. Today, Din Tai Fung is a global phenomenon with over 170 locations worldwide, still operated by the Yang family.

Din Tai Fung’s menu is a tribute to classic Chinese cuisine, featuring dishes like steamed buns, dumplings, noodle soups, and their signature xiao long bao, each meticulously hand-folded 18 times (pictured above). With 16 locations already established in the United States, including in California, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and New York, the Scottsdale opening marks the restaurant’s first venture into Arizona.

Fans can order and savor some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, such as the kurobuta pork sticky rice wrap, classic vegan steamed buns, or the delectable chocolate steamed buns, delivered straight to their doorstep.

The arrival of Din Tai Fung in Scottsdale is a major win for Arizona’s culinary scene, offering residents and visitors alike a chance to indulge in some of the most celebrated Chinese dishes in the world. Keep an eye out for the opening date, as this is one dining experience you won’t want to miss.
