GLENDALE, Ariz. — A tragic accident claimed the life of Tyrone Tyre Wilson, a 22-year-old ironworker, at the VAI Resort construction site near State Farm Stadium on Monday morning.

Glendale Police responded to the scene just before 3 a.m. after receiving reports of a worker falling six stories at the 60-acre resort currently under construction. No criminal element was identified, and the incident has been referred to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for investigation.

Remembering Tyrone Tyre Wilson

Wilson, a resident of Bylas on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, was remembered by family as a hard-working young man who dreamed of becoming a journeyman ironworker.

“He chose the hardest job, and he really loved what he did,” said his mother, Latoya Cheney.

Wilson’s sister, Jayla Wilson, shared that her brother aspired to follow in their grandfather’s footsteps as an ironworker. “He always wanted to carry on his legacy,” she said.

Outside of work, Wilson embraced his passion for bull riding, embodying a daring and adventurous spirit. His family described him as having a contagious smile that could light up any room.

“He told me, ‘Mom, I’ll be back for Christmas.’ But yeah, we won’t be able to see him again,” Cheney said.

Community and Investigation

The incident has deeply affected Wilson’s family and the small community of Bylas. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with funeral expenses.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident,” Todd Mack, chief business officer of Fisher Industries, said in a statement. “Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the individual involved.”

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.

Wilson’s family and friends will remember him as a dedicated worker and a kind-hearted individual whose dreams were tragically cut short.
