A woman riding an electric scooter was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in west Phoenix early Thursday morning, according to local authorities.
Phoenix police responded to the crash near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road shortly after 1 a.m. Officers arrived to find an adult woman who had been hit while traveling on an electric scooter. Paramedics from the Phoenix Fire Department transported her to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Investigators said the driver involved did not flee far from the scene. Glendale police located both the vehicle and the suspected driver a short distance away. The man was detained and later handed over to Phoenix officers, who took him in for processing on suspicion of impairment.
Authorities have not yet released the woman’s identity or an update on her condition. The driver’s name has also not been disclosed as the investigation remains active.
The incident marks another serious crash involving vulnerable road users in the Phoenix area, where police have urged both motorists and scooter riders to remain alert, especially during overnight hours.
