PHOENIX — A 29-year-old woman died and another person was injured after a vehicle collided with a Valley Metro bus in Phoenix on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The crash occurred just before 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of 35th Avenue and Thomas Road. Police identified the deceased as Emily Analla, a passenger in the vehicle that struck the bus. She was transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries.
A passenger on the bus was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle, 23-year-old Xavier Manuel, was hospitalized with minor injuries. Police said he showed signs of impairment during the investigation. After being released from medical care, Manuel was arrested and booked on manslaughter charges.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was traveling west on Thomas Road when it struck the rear of a stopped Valley Metro bus just west of 35th Avenue.
The investigation is ongoing.
