In a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey granted local governments the authority to make wearing face masks in public mandatory as the state struggles with an increase in coronavirus cases.

Mayors were quick to respond, revealing their thoughts on whether to implement a policy.

Here is a list of responses Arizona cities have offered in regards to mandating a face mask policy:

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said the City Council would vote on a measure during its next meeting. Gallego is in support of a mandatory mask policy.

Mesa Mayor John Giles plans to issue a proclamation requiring masks to be worn in the city.

Chandler City Council will hold a special council meeting June 18th at 4 p.m.

Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers said the City Council would vote on a mandatory mask mandate on Friday.

Tempe Mayor Mark Mitchell will implement a mask policy beginning Thursday.

Scottsdale said no decision has yet been made about whether to make mask wearing mandatory.

Gilbert Mayor Jenn Daniels called an emergency meeting for Friday at 8 a.m. to address whether or not to institute a mask policy.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero plans to sign an emergency proclamation requiring masks Thursday.

Flagstaff Mayor Coral Evans said she would be issuing an emergency proclamation that would require masks.

Tolleson Mayor Anna Tovar said she would issue an emergency declaration to wear masks in the city.

Casa Grande residents are now required to wear masks when in public buildings and private businesses.
