Residents across Phoenix should expect modified city operations on Memorial Day as municipal offices and several public facilities close in observance of the holiday on Monday, May 25.
According to the City of Phoenix, City Hall and most administrative offices will be closed for the day, while essential services including trash collection and airport operations will continue.
Phoenix officials said residential trash and recycling pickup schedules will remain unchanged throughout the Memorial Day week, with collection taking place as normally scheduled on Monday. However, both the 27th Avenue and North Gateway transfer stations will be closed for the holiday.
All Phoenix Public Library locations will also be closed Monday, though book drops and digital resources will remain accessible online around the clock.
Public transit riders should prepare for reduced service. Valley Metro buses and light rail trains will operate on a Sunday schedule, and there will be no Express or RAPID bus service during the holiday. Customer service centers at Ed Pastor, Sunnyslope and Central Station will also be closed.
Meanwhile, city parks and hiking trails will stay open during regular hours, although community centers and the S’edav Va’aki Museum will close for the day.
At Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, airport officials are encouraging travelers to arrive early ahead of what is expected to be a busy holiday travel weekend. Passengers are also being reminded that REAL ID enforcement requirements are now in effect for domestic air travel.
Drivers downtown should note that Phoenix parking meters remain enforced daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., including holidays.
