PHOENIX, AZ – The Surprise Police Department has partnered with the Dysart Unified School District to provide law enforcement remote access to the district’s network of security cameras in emergency situations.
This collaboration enables police to view live video feeds across 26 West Valley campuses, allowing officers to gather real-time information when responding to potential threats or incidents within Dysart schools.
“This access provides officers with critical, up-to-the-minute details that can improve response times and enhance safety in our schools,” the department said in a statement.
School Safety Partnerships Expand Across the Valley
Dysart Unified follows in the footsteps of Mesa Public Schools and the Peoria Unified School District, which have similar video-sharing agreements with the Mesa Police Department and Glendale Police Department, respectively.
Surprise Police Also Implement New Flock Camera System
In addition to the school security partnership, Surprise police announced the launch of a Flock camera system, which integrates the city’s traffic-monitoring cameras into a centralized crime-fighting database.
This system will help law enforcement:
- Develop crime trend data
- Assist in criminal investigations
- Provide officers with key intelligence before responding to calls
Residents Can Opt Into Community Camera Program
Through the Surprise Safe Community Camera Registration Program, residents and businesses can voluntarily grant police access to privately owned security cameras, such as doorbell cameras and surveillance systems.
A similar community-based camera-sharing program is already in place in the city of Buckeye, providing law enforcement with additional tools to enhance public safety.
The new video access initiatives underscore a growing trend in law enforcement partnerships with schools and communities, aiming to enhance security, improve response times, and strengthen public safety efforts across Arizona’s West Valley.
