Watch Out For Sea Lice This Summer

Summer travels this year may take you to a dreamy beach vacation, but there is a warning about something that no one thinks about. In fact, they’re the last thing you are thinking about while wading through the water on a nice day at the beach: tiny little larvae floating in the ocean, commonly referred to as sea lice.

Are you itching yet?

These tiny pests will sting humans, typically when they get caught in-between your skin and swimwear.

If you believe you’ve been stung by sea lice, you may observe an itchy rash or small blisters on your body—more severe symptoms (fever, chills, headache and nausea) may indicate a more severe reaction and should be observed by a medical professional.

In the event you are stung, it is recommended to take a shower as soon as you realize a rash or blisters on your body, and to apply cooked oatmeal or calamine lotion to these areas as well.
