War Dogs Shows Money and Success Don’t Always Come Along With Happiness

War Dogs brings to the big screens the story of two young men who manage to obtain a $300 million dollars contract to arm America’s allies in Afghanistan. Given their age, these two young men lack any bit of maturity. Call them smart or lucky, they prove that age doesn’t matter when it comes to getting filthy rich. But let’s see how the real-life guys did it.

This whole adventure started back in 2005 in Miami. David Packouz, played by Miles Teller is a total screw-up. He dropped out of college, failed in business, and barely makes an existence as a massage therapist. While at a funeral, he reunites with his middle school friend, Efraim Diveroli, played by Jonah Hill. While catching up, Efraim tells David about a war related business his uncle runs. Despite not agreeing with the idea of war and war related business, David is forced to join, as he finds out his girlfriend is pregnant. The two of them manage to grow the business in a very short time. However, Efraim becomes greedy and develops a drug addiction. Things become a lot more tensed between the two childhood friends when David is forced to live in Albania in order to secure an important deal.

War Dogs is very much related to The Wolf of Wall Street; both movies show that money and success don’t always come along with happiness. Responsibility comes with age and experience. Businesses cannot be ran from nightclubs.

Todd Phillips, who is also the director of the Hangover trilogy, sure knows how to shoot a movie.  The comparison between the sparkling Miami and the gray Albania makes the movie look like a thriller, rather than a comedy, adding a bit of drama and surprise.

War Dogs is an interesting blend of politics, war, nightlife, young men and irresponsibility.

It is for sure one of this year’s movies that worth watching.
