Wednesday, July 24, 2018, Waymo, a former Google subsidiary, announced its plan to partner with Walmart for driverless car delivery service. Beginning July 26, the pilot program that would allow customers to place online orders, have those orders filled by Walmart employees, and delivered by a Waymo driverless car. Although Waymo has not disclosed which store will be participating in the pilot program, there are only four Walmart Supercenters and two neighborhood stores in Chandler.
Waymo also revealed other multiple projects in Arizona. These projects include a shuttles to a from the Ahwatukee Foothills Towne Center, the Element Hotel (Chandler), Autonation, and Avis Budget rental cars. Rides for the participants in these partnerships are initially free.
