A tragic accident in downtown Phoenix claimed the life of a municipal court officer on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities confirmed that 60-year-old Susan Hawkins, a dedicated city employee who had served since 1993, was struck by a truck near the Phoenix Municipal Court at Third Avenue and Adams Street.
Emergency crews from the Phoenix Police Department and Phoenix Fire Department responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Hawkins was transported to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Police said preliminary findings indicate the truck was making a turn when it hit Hawkins, who had just exited a parking garage elevator and was walking northbound. Investigators do not believe impairment played a role in the crash. The case remains under investigation.
The city has not released further details as the investigation continues.
