Valley Man Indicted After High-Speed Police Chase Reaches Over 100 MPH

Suspect allegedly struck officer, led pursuit across multiple cities

PHOENIX — A Valley man has been indicted for his alleged role in a high-speed police chase that spanned multiple cities and reached speeds over 100 mph, the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) announced Wednesday.

Johnny Lee Castillo, 45, was formally indicted in January on three felony counts of aggravated assault and one count of unlawful flight from law enforcement. The charges stem from an incident that began with a reported theft on Nov. 19, 2024, at a retail store.

Police responding to the scene allegedly saw Castillo leaving and say he struck a Phoenix police officer as he fled.

About a week later, on Nov. 26, officers located Castillo again, prompting a lengthy pursuit. According to MCAO, Castillo fled at high speeds, reaching over 100 mph during the hour-long chase. The pursuit reportedly weaved through several Valley cities, during which Castillo allegedly struck a police vehicle and veered into oncoming traffic, endangering drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.

The chase ended when police successfully disabled Castillo’s vehicle.
