U.S. Winter Storms Causing Delays and Cancelations at Sky Harbor

We may have sunny skies in the valley of the sun today, but states across the nation are experiencing a major winter storm that have caused major flight delays and cancellations departing from Sky Harbor International Airport this week.

Sky Harbor’s website showed more than 150 flights were canceled for Wednesday and Thursday. An additional 20 flights had been delayed, with more to be expected.

The stretch of states from New Mexico and Colorado to Maine are receiving a blast of frigid weather and all are currently under winter storm warnings and watches. Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri, experienced freezing rain, sleet and snow on Wednesday morning. Heavy snow is expected in Missouri, Indiana and Illinois, and significant ice is expected in Tennessee and Kentucky.

National weather services reported that Denver area saw 8 to 12 inches on Wednesday and Illinois saw more than 14 inches of snow.

Airline officials are recommending to passengers check their flight status before coming to the airport and are asking all travelers remain patience and understanding due to the uncontrollable situation.
