Two Teens Indicted for Murder After Deadly Gas Station Shooting in Phoenix

Pair Also Accused of Armed Robbery, Assault, and Kidnapping in Violent Crime Spree

PHOENIX, AZ — Two teenagers have been indicted on multiple felony charges, including First-Degree Murder, after a deadly shooting at a Phoenix gas station that left an innocent bystander dead, Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announced.

Arturo Vazquez-Rodriguez (DOB 02/2006) and Isaac Lechuga (DOB 10/2005) are accused of carrying out two armed robberies and fatally shooting Naul Hernandez early on February 21, 2025.

According to investigators, the suspects first robbed a victim at gunpoint at a convenience store near 25th Avenue and Camelback Road, with one acting as the lookout from a truck while the other carried out the robbery.

Shortly after, the pair drove to a second convenience store near 27th Avenue and Thomas Road, where they allegedly opened fire, killing Hernandez as he pumped gas. Hernandez was not involved in the robbery.

Charges Filed Against Both Defendants:

  • First Degree Murder (Class 1 Felony)

  • Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery (Class 2 Felony)

  • Armed Robbery (Class 2 Felony)

  • Kidnapping (Class 2 Felony)

  • Aggravated Assault (Class 3 Felony)

Vazquez-Rodriguez remains jailed on a $1 million cash-only bond, while Lechuga is held on a $1 million secured appearance bond. Both are scheduled to go to trial in October, though that date could change.
