Mesa police are investigating a shooting that left two people dead and two others injured, marking another homicide investigation in the East Valley as detectives work to determine what led to the violence.
Officers responded around 8 p.m. Sunday to reports of gunfire in a residential neighborhood near Lindsay and Brown roads, close to Mountain View High School. When officers arrived, they found four people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not released the identities of the victims or additional information about the conditions of the two surviving victims.
Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the community, though the area was temporarily closed as investigators processed the scene. Mesa police homicide detectives have assumed the investigation and are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The incident is the latest in a series of homicide investigations across the Valley this month, as law enforcement agencies continue to seek information from witnesses and collect evidence to identify those responsible. Police have not announced any arrests or identified a suspect.
