Two Injured After High-Speed Boat Crash at Lake Havasu Event

Boat traveling over 200 mph goes airborne during Desert Storm Shootout

PHOENIX — Two people were injured Saturday after a high-speed boat crash during the Desert Storm Shootout event at Lake Havasu, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred near the Site Six area during the annual event, which draws boaters and enthusiasts from around the country.

Authorities said the boat was traveling on a closed course when it went airborne and crashed.

After the crash, deputies found the two riders exiting the partially sunken speedboat. They were placed on a rescue boat, treated for minor injuries, and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Investigators said the boat was traveling at about 210 miles per hour before it lost control. Both riders were wearing helmets, restraints, and life jackets, which authorities said helped prevent more serious injuries.
