TUCSON — A Tucson man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for methamphetamine trafficking, following a failed attempt to deliver the drug and a brief flight from law enforcement.
Jose Fernando McCormick, 52, received his sentence on June 27, 2025, from U.S. District Judge Scott H. Rash. In addition to the 120-month prison term, McCormick will serve five years of supervised release. He previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
According to court records, on October 3, 2024, McCormick drove to a Tucson gas station carrying approximately 8 kilograms of meth in his truck. He intended to deliver the drugs there, but fled when law enforcement officers attempted to stop him. McCormick led officers to a nearby neighborhood, where he abandoned his moving vehicle, which crashed into a power pole. He was later discovered hiding in a residential shed.
The case was prosecuted as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, which targets high-level drug trafficking organizations using coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Culver of the District of Arizona.
