PHOENIX — Former Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has been selected by former President Donald Trump to serve as the United States ambassador to Serbia.
The announcement came Friday via Trump’s Truth Social account, where he praised Brnovich’s military service and immigrant roots.
“Mark proudly served in the Army National Guard,” Trump posted. “As the child of refugees who escaped communism, he will represent American values and freedom with strength and clarity.”
Brnovich, a Republican born in Detroit to Serbian parents, has spoken frequently about his cultural background. In a 2022 interview with The Serbian Times, he emphasized the importance of his heritage and the connection he and his wife, federal judge Susan Brnovich, have maintained with Serbia through regular visits.
The former attorney general had previously run for U.S. Senate, vying for the Republican nomination in 2022. He ultimately lost the primary to Blake Masters, who was later defeated by incumbent Democrat Mark Kelly in the general election.
Brnovich has not yet issued a public statement regarding his appointment.
The post was previously held by Christopher Robert Hill. With this latest appointment, Trump continues to place loyal conservatives with deep personal ties to their regions of assignment into key diplomatic roles.
And while Arizona awaits Brnovich’s response, residents may recall his more lighthearted public moments — including the viral clip of him demonstrating his nunchaku skills during his time in office.
