Tragic Shooting in Gilbert Leaves One Dead, Another Critically Injured After Family Dispute

Police say a domestic argument escalated into gunfire Tuesday afternoon, leaving a 74-year-old woman dead and her husband hospitalized.

A quiet Gilbert neighborhood was shaken Tuesday afternoon when an argument inside a home near Higley and Riggs roads ended in deadly gunfire, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

Officers rushed to the scene just before 3 p.m. after a woman called 911, reporting that her parents had been arguing before she heard multiple gunshots. When police arrived, they forced their way into the home and discovered two people with severe injuries.

Authorities confirmed that a 74-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her husband, a 76-year-old man, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Investigators say there are no outstanding suspects and that the shooting appears to be an isolated domestic incident. Police have not yet released additional details as they continue to investigate what led to the tragic confrontation.

The quiet residential area near the intersection of Higley and Riggs has seen similar incidents in recent years, highlighting ongoing concerns about domestic violence in the East Valley. More information will be released as the investigation develops, officials said.
