Three inmates died over the weekend while in custody at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s Lower Buckeye Jail in Phoenix, prompting multiple death investigations and additional security measures at the facility.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said its Jail Crimes Detectives are investigating each of the deaths, which occurred at the jail near 35th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road. Officials have not released the identities of the inmates or disclosed when each death occurred over the weekend.
Investigators are awaiting autopsy results from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause and manner of each death. Authorities have not indicated whether the three cases are connected or whether foul play is suspected.
