Three Injured, Including Two Officers, in Downtown Phoenix Crash Involving Police SUV

Investigators say another driver may have run a red light before colliding with a Phoenix Police vehicle that rolled over near Seventh Avenue and Grant Street.

A downtown Phoenix crash Saturday afternoon sent two police officers and a civilian to the hospital after their patrol vehicle overturned in a collision, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the crash occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. near Seventh Avenue and Grant Street. Investigators believe the driver of a second SUV ran a red light and struck a Phoenix Police Tahoe, causing it to roll over and land upside down.

Responding officers found the patrol vehicle overturned in the roadway. Both officers and a passenger inside the Tahoe were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the other SUV was treated at the scene for minor injuries. No fatalities were reported.

The area around Seventh Avenue and Grant Street remained closed for several hours as traffic investigators worked to reconstruct the scene and determine the exact cause of the crash.

Phoenix police said the investigation is still in its early stages, and no citations or charges have been announced.

This incident comes amid a string of recent collisions involving police vehicles in the Valley, including an overnight hit-and-run involving a DUI suspect earlier this week.
