Three people were injured late Friday after an alleged attempted robbery turned shooting near Tempe Town Lake, according to the Tempe Police Department.
Officers responded around 11:40 p.m. to the area of Rio Salado Parkway and Hardy Drive after reports of gunfire. Investigators said two people riding scooters along the south side of the lake were approached by a group who allegedly attempted to rob one of them at gunpoint.
During the confrontation, police said shots were exchanged between one of the scooter riders and one of the suspects. The suspects fled the scene but were later located by officers.
One of the scooter riders and two suspects were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Authorities confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public. The names of the suspects have not been released as the investigation remains active.
