The First Foam Home in Phoenix

A new home that was built completely from foam recently, making it the first of it’s kind in the Phoenix region. David Stockton and his family are living in the new foam house and are proud of their one of a kind Phoenix home. The builders said it was a lot easier to purchase and cheaper to purchase than wood, plus it is an eco-friendly material.

“It really seemed like a good deal,” said Stockton “and it was something we could afford and were able to build the kind of house we were looking to build for our daughter.”

Stockton said everyone they talk to are curious about the interesting new home and once they see it with their own eyes they cannot believe it is made completely out of foam. From just looking at the home, people think it is wood and almost do not believe Stockton and his family when they tell them what it is really made out of. They are extremely intrigued when he tells them about all of the added benefits of using foam over wood, especially he tells them how much stronger — and cheaper — foam is than wood.

The general contractor of the house, Jeremy Pollock, said “It comes in large blocks, and it goes together much like legos. I have been building homes for 20 years, so when I heard about it, it intrigued me in many ways.”

The polystyrene foam that is used in cups shows the proof at how good this material is at insulating cold, heat, and humidity by keeping liquids piping hot without melting and freezing cold without building moisture on the outside. Homes are generally made of at least two 4″ thick planks that are shaped into panels and inserted between concrete before placed into the home.
