Thanksgiving Dinner Costs in Arizona Rise Nearly 3% in 2024

Higher prices driven by inflation, but charitable efforts aim to help families in need.

Planning a traditional Thanksgiving dinner will cost Arizona families almost 3% more this year compared to 2023, according to the Arizona Farm Bureau.

The cost of preparing a turkey dinner with all the trimmings is projected at $53.83 for a family of ten, which breaks down to $5.33 per person. This marks a modest increase of $1.49 or 2.8% over last year’s average meal price.

Key Cost Increases

  • Turkey: Up 7 cents per pound compared to 2023.
  • Other essentials, such as cube stuffing, pie shells, and sweet potatoes, saw larger price hikes.

“Inflation continues to impact families, making it harder for many to afford meals during the holiday season,” said Julie Murphree, communications director at the Arizona Farm Bureau.

Survey Methodology

The Arizona Farm Bureau determined this year’s Thanksgiving costs through a survey conducted by the Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee. Volunteers visited grocery stores across the state during the week of Nov. 4, tracking the prices of typical Thanksgiving staples:

  • Turkey
  • Stuffing
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Rolls with butter
  • Peas
  • Cranberries
  • Vegetable tray
  • Milk
  • Pumpkin pie with whipped cream

Charitable Efforts to Support Families

As inflation squeezes budgets, local charities are stepping up with turkey drives and holiday food assistance programs.

Community members are encouraged to participate in these initiatives to help families struggling to afford a Thanksgiving meal.
