Tempe Racing Crash Leaves Five Hospitalized

Mustang loses control during street race with motorcycle near Rio Salado Parkway

TEMPE, Ariz. — Five people were left with critical injuries after a street racing crash Monday night in Tempe.

Police say officers were called to the area of Scottsdale Road and Rio Salado Parkway around 8:15 p.m. after reports of a serious crash. When they arrived, they found that a Ford Mustang had failed to negotiate a curve while racing a motorcycle and lost control.

The impact was so severe that all five occupants of the Mustang were ejected from the vehicle. Emergency crews transported each of them to the hospital in critical condition.

Police said the motorcyclist involved in the race returned to the scene after the crash. The investigation into the circumstances of the street race and possible charges remains ongoing.
