Tempe FanCon Returns for 10th Anniversary: A Free Family Celebration of Comics, Anime, and Pop Culture

This Year’s Event Features Over 80 Vendors, Costume Contests, and Activities for All Ages

TEMPE, AZ — Tempe FanCon is back for its 10th anniversary, offering a free, family-friendly event at the Tempe Public Library on January 25. Celebrating comics, anime, literacy, and pop culture, the event will feature a wide variety of activities and attractions for fans of all ages.

“We’re very excited about the 10th anniversary,” said Jill Brenner, programming librarian. “This year, we have over 83 vendors, food trucks, local artists, authors, and plenty of activities for both kids and adults.”

What to Expect

Highlights of the event include:

  • Scavenger Hunt: A fun challenge for attendees to explore the venue and discover hidden clues.
  • Board Game Room: Staff will help participants learn and enjoy a wide range of games.
  • Kids’ Fun Factory: Obstacle courses, face painting, crafts, and more for young attendees.
  • Costume Contest: A signature feature of the event, with contests for different age groups and creative mash-ups.

“Whether you dress up as your favorite character, create your own, or come as yourself, everyone is welcome,” Brenner said.

Promoting Literacy Through Fun

The annual celebration is rooted in the library’s mission to encourage reading. “The idea behind FanCon is to get people excited about reading,” Brenner explained. “Graphic novels and comic books are a great way to engage kids and reluctant readers, blending artwork with storytelling to make reading accessible and enjoyable.”
