A weekend pool party in Avondale was disrupted by gunfire Saturday evening, leaving a teenage boy injured and prompting an ongoing police investigation.
Officers with the Avondale Police Department responded to reports of a shooting around 7:15 p.m. near Avondale Boulevard and McDowell Road. When they arrived, they discovered that shots had been fired during a gathering at an apartment complex’s community pool.
Authorities said a 15-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police quickly located and detained two individuals in the vicinity who matched descriptions of possible suspects. However, officials have not yet released details about their involvement or whether charges will be filed.
Investigators emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public, though they continue to piece together what led to the shooting. The incident adds to a string of recent gun-related disturbances at social gatherings across the greater Phoenix area, raising renewed concerns about safety at large events.
