In the early morning hours in April of 2022, a Tucson Police Officer was flagged down near N. Park Ave. and E. 2nd Street. in regards to a shooting in the area. As the officer responded and requested assistance, the Public Safety Communications Department (PSCD) began receiving several 9-1-1 calls reporting the shooting. Once on scene, officers were given a suspect description and an area search was initiated. The TPD Air Unit and K9 Units also responded to assist in the search; however, a suspect was not located. Responding officers at the scene had located an adult male with gunshot trauma and immediately began rendering aid.

Additionally, a second gunshot victim was located nearby with serious injuries. Upon arrival, Tucson Fire Department personnel pronounced the first victim deceased at the scene. Officers identified that victim as 24-year-old Harrison Weber. The second victim, identified as a 21-year-old male, was transported to a local hospital in life-threatening condition but was later upgraded to stable condition. From initial interviews in conjunction with evidence recovered at the scene, detectives believe that two groups of individuals were involved in a confrontation which led to the shooting.

Shortly after TPD Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Howard-Brown in May of 2022, detectives asked for help from the public and local media in locating him. Investigators exhausted all leads and as efforts to locate Howard-Brown turned unsuccessful, the US Marshals Service (USMS) was contacted and joined in the search. The US Marshals developed information identifying a possible location for Trevontea in northern Iowa.

On the morning of January 20, 2023, members from the US Marshals Service and Charles City Police Department located Howard-Brown at a residence. The suspect briefly barricaded himself in the home but was ultimately taken into custody without incident. Trevontea Howard-Brown was transported and booked into the Floyd County Jail for his warrant for 1st Degree Murder and Attempted 1st Degree Murder.
