Suspect Hospitalized After Officer-Involved Shooting with Tucson Police

Authorities say the man exchanged gunfire with officers following a chase linked to an earlier shooting and armed robbery.

A man was hospitalized Saturday morning after an officer-involved shooting with Tucson police, authorities said.

The incident began around 9:45 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex near Old Spanish Trail and Camino Seco. Police later received information that the suspect’s description matched that of an armed robbery suspect at a nearby Walmart.

Two uniformed officers located the man, who fled on foot. According to the Tucson Police Department, the suspect ignored commands to drop his weapon, and an exchange of gunfire followed.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported by Tucson Fire Department crews to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers or bystanders were hurt in the incident.

The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team has been assigned to investigate the shooting, in keeping with protocol for officer-involved incidents.

Further details, including the suspect’s identity, have not yet been released.
