One person is dead after a shooting involving Peoria police Sunday evening in a quiet Northwest neighborhood near Liberty High School.

Police received a call for a report of a domestic violence at about 8:30 p.m., near 95th Avenue and Deer Valley Road.

Officers made contact with a man who jumped into a car and drove away at a high rate of speed. Officers gave chase and boxed in the driver forcing him to stop his vehicle.

According to police reports, the driver got out of his car and started yelling to police that he had a gun and they would have to kill him.

One officer fired at least one shot and the suspect died at the scene.

No officers were injured in the shooting. No additional details have been released.
