Suspect Arrested After Hours-Long Barricade Shuts Down Major Mesa Road

Police say the standoff stemmed from a domestic violence incident near University Drive and Greenfield Road.

A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday morning after an hours-long barricade situation in Mesa led to the closure of a major roadway, police said.

According to the Mesa Police Department, officers responded to a domestic violence call at a home near University Drive and Greenfield Road. When officers arrived, they found a female victim who was taken to a hospital with multiple injuries.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside the residence, prompting a heavy police response and shutting down University Drive in both directions for several hours.

As of late morning, University Drive remained closed near Greenfield Road while the investigation continued. Mesa police have not yet released the suspect’s name or further details about the case.
