Man hospitalized after being hit by police vehicle while allegedly reaching for a gun during pursuit

PHOENIX — A man was arrested Saturday in connection with an armed robbery at a Phoenix hotel that led to a police chase and a hospital visit, authorities said.

Officers responded around 3:15 p.m. to a report of an armed robbery at a hotel near 48th Avenue and McDowell Road. Witnesses told police the suspect stole a woman’s purse at gunpoint before fleeing the scene.

Police later spotted a man matching the suspect’s description at a gas station near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road. When officers in a patrol vehicle attempted to stop him, the man ran into the street, prompting a foot chase.

During the pursuit, officers said they saw the man reach for a firearm. At that point, the suspect was struck by the police vehicle.

He was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, the man will be booked on multiple charges — including armed robbery and aggravated assault — once he is released from the hospital.
