Suns Forward Dillon Brooks Taken Into Custody in Early-Morning DUI Stop

The arrest adds off-court turbulence to an already complicated season for the polarizing veteran.

Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks found himself in police custody in the early hours of Friday morning after Scottsdale officers pulled him over on suspicion of driving under the influence.

According to Scottsdale police, Brooks was stopped around 1 a.m. on Scottsdale Road near Thunderbird Road following observed traffic violations. Officers detained him roughly thirty minutes after the initial stop, and he was released from custody before 4 a.m.

The Suns organization acknowledged the incident in a brief statement, saying the team was aware and in the process of gathering more details, while declining to elaborate further.

The timing adds another layer of difficulty to what has already been a bumpy stretch for Brooks. The 28-year-old has been out of the lineup since fracturing his left hand, with the team indicating in late February that he faced a four-to-six week recovery window — a timeline that could push his return into early April, deep in the final stretch of the regular season.

On the court, Brooks has been one of the Suns’ more productive players in his first season with the team, arriving in the offseason as part of the blockbuster trade that sent Kevin Durant to Houston. He has averaged nearly 21 points per game — a career best — while fully leaning into his reputation as one of the league’s most combative and provocative competitors. That reputation recently cost him: Brooks was suspended for one game after the All-Star break when he collected his 16th technical foul of the season, triggering an automatic league suspension.

Friday’s arrest ensures the headlines surrounding Brooks won’t be limited to the box score anytime soon.
