Summer Travel is Picking Up: Travel Tips to Remember

Travel is finally getting back to normal.

It was reported that millions of people flew over the Memorial Day weekend. In fact, on Friday, May 28, and Monday, May 30, more than 1.9 million people were screened at TSA Checkpoints. The last time 1.9 million people went through TSA in a single day prior to last weekend was March 8, 2020, according to TSA’s website.

Since more people are headed to the airport, TSA is reminding people about what the rules are at the airport and what items can and cannot be brought through airport security, for those planning to travel soon

Masks
Masks are still required to be worn inside the airport, on the airplane, on the PHX Sky Train, city buses, and other public transportation due to a federal mandate that is still in place.

“The airport is a federal facility as far as T.S.A. Checkpoints, and air travelers will not be able to make it beyond the checkpoint if they refuse to wear a mask,” said TSA spokesperson Patricia Mancha.

Arrive Early & Use the Apps
Arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight. You can check security wait times through the convenient “MyTSA” app. Check the latest flight updates through the airline you are flying.

Travelers should know checking in can be quick and easy also. Unless you’re checking a bag, there’s no reason to deal with the check-in desk or wait for a kiosk at the airport. Download your airline’s app ahead of time, confirm your reservation details, and then simply check-in. Travelers can then head straight to security after arriving at the airport.

What is Allowed
Remember liquids have to be 3.4 ounces or less to be allowed in a carry-on bag. It is our understanding that there is one exception which is you can have up to 12 ounces of hand sanitizer. Any liquid must alson be placed in a see-through bag no larger than a quart.

Here is TSA’s list of items that are allowed and not allowed through security.

Park Like a Pro
If you are not getting dropped off for your flight, know that airport parking lots can fill up quickly during the busiest travel times. Use SpotHero to reserve a place in advance at lots near over 40 airports throughout the U.S.

Safe travels.
