Sugar Swap Event

Phoenicians are invited to exchange their sugary foods for free produce at the upcoming The Sugar Swap event. Residents can attend the Uptown Farmers Market on Saturday, November 4th from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Uptown Farmers Market is located in the east parking lot at North Phoenix Baptist Church at 5757 N. Central Avenue.

The Sugar Swap event, sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, is set to encourage residents to make healthier food choices. Residents will be given $5 in Homegrown Healthy bucks, good for fresh produce, in exchange for sugary food items containing more than 7 grams of sugar. As a special touch, artist Kristine Kollasch will be onsite using the packaging from the Sugar Swap donations to create a one-of-a-kind art masterpiece that offers the message, “Healthier Arizona.”

The event is aimed at educating Phoenicians about the impacts of sugars in their diet while encouraging healthier food choices such as local, fresh produce. For more information on the event visit http://nourishingarizona.com/sugar.
