Phoenix has officially joined the ranks of U.S. cities with direct access to Asia, as STARLUX Airlines launched its inaugural nonstop flight between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on January 15. The milestone event was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by city officials, airport leaders, and STARLUX executives.
The new service—operated with a state-of-the-art Airbus A350—marks the first-ever nonstop connection between Phoenix and an Asian destination. The luxury carrier currently offers three weekly flights between the two cities on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, with plans to add a Saturday flight in March 2026.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego hailed the launch as a transformative step for the city’s economy and global presence. She highlighted how the route will strengthen tourism, attract international investment, and support growing industries like semiconductor manufacturing that rely on ties with Asia.
Airport officials estimate the Taipei–Phoenix service will contribute nearly $170 million annually to Arizona’s economy. Phoenix Sky Harbor’s broader network of international routes already generates over $3.4 billion in yearly economic impact, according to the airport’s latest analysis.
Aviation Director Chad Makovsky called the partnership with STARLUX “a long-awaited gateway to Asia” for Arizona travelers and businesses. “This route supports jobs, boosts tourism, and provides direct access to one of the most dynamic regions in the world,” he said.
STARLUX’s Airbus A350 aircraft features four cabin classes—first, business, premium economy, and economy—designed to offer a high-end travel experience with Taiwanese hospitality.
The airline’s arrival is not only a win for tourism but also a reflection of Phoenix’s growing global profile. As industries like advanced manufacturing continue to expand in the region, leaders say stronger international connectivity will be crucial to maintaining the city’s momentum on the world stage.
