Spoon University helps bring Meal Hacks to ASU Students

A new innovative idea is taking place for Arizona State University students, and it is quickly gaining popularity and catching on around the country.  It’s actually a very unique concept, in the sense that college students always seem to live on pizza and popcorn.  Well, no more thanks to a group of contributors that are students at Arizona State University.  The students submit recipes that college students will find quick, easy, and more nutritious than greasy fast food or frozen pizza.  The publication, Spoon University, allows each student to have their own website, which they then submit their own ideas to, including recipes, photos, and upcoming events.  The publication is already proven to be very successful with more than 150 college campuses in the U.S. Their motto is “it’s food for our generation”.

Fire alarms are all too often a normal sound in dormitories everywhere, however, this new program can put an end to that.  The organization strives to make cooking the normal thing to do, instead of ordering pizza or eating microwave popcorn.  Many of the recipes are microwaveable, designed to be quick and easy to prepare.  Recipes include 2 minute French toast, and even spaghetti for dinner. Spoon University has diligently promoted the concept of intelligent eating, which often involves a much healthier choice than the local drive-thru.

Leave it to a college students to come up with a cinnamon roll cooked in a waffle iron to make a cinnamon waffle!  Our future generation has tons of great recipes and ideas, including Nutella pinwheels and pumpkin spice donuts.

The women that started this organization faced some opposition when they started and needed to have approval from ASU, along with support and signatures. Some students backed out after agreeing to work on the project, so there were some kinks that had to be worked out. Even with the initial start up issues, the ladies have succeeded and obtained approval needed to continue this project.  The money saved on fast food, and the somewhat healthier choices is bound to make this project a success.  There is anticipation that it will be a new phenomenon at colleges around the country.
