Special Olympics Team Arizona Brings Home 16 Gold Medals and 44 Medals Overall

Special Olympics Arizona athletes, partners and coaches made a triumphant return to Arizona following the completion of the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, bringing home a total of 44 medals (16 Gold, 20 Silver and 8 Bronze) from the week-long competition that brought together more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from throughout the country.

The 44 individual and team medals were earned in the following sports:

“This was such a great week and a moment that our athletes will cherish forever,” said Jamie Heckerman, President and CEO of Special Olympics Arizona.  “I am so proud of Team Arizona, they competed, they had fun, they overcame challenges, and most importantly, made new friends and really showcased what Special Olympics is all about – becoming champions for a more inclusive world.  It was a truly magical experience, we can’t wait to do it again in four years.”

Special Olympics Arizona was represented by more than 115 athletes, partners and coaches at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, which showcased more than 5,500 athletes and coaches from throughout the country competing in front of more than 125,000 spectators and supporters at one of the country’s most cherished sporting events.
