Arizona’s fascination with true crime is heading into the podcast world with the launch of a new locally focused series from Silent Witness. The longtime Arizona crime tip nonprofit announced this week that it is launching “The Silent Report,” a new Arizona true crime podcast centered on Phoenix cold cases, unsolved crimes, detectives, victims, and the real stories behind major investigations across the state. The podcast officially premieres Friday, May 22.
Presented by Silent Witness and Circle K, the podcast aims to combine storytelling with public awareness around unresolved Arizona crimes and the people impacted by them.
First Episode Features Former Phoenix Detective Troy Hillman
The debut episode of “The Silent Report” features retired Phoenix Police detective Troy Hillman, a former cold case sergeant who spent more than two decades investigating homicide cases across Arizona.
Hillman is best known for his work on some of Arizona’s most disturbing unsolved crimes, including the infamous “Zombie Hunter” serial killer investigation. He later authored the book “Chasing Down the Zombie Hunter,” detailing the years-long investigation that helped pioneer the use of familial DNA in Arizona cold case investigations.
According to Silent Witness, Hillman will discuss the realities of cold case investigations, the emotional toll these cases leave behind, and the importance of continuing to pursue justice years after crimes occur.
Arizona True Crime Content Continues To Grow
The launch comes as true crime podcasts and documentary series continue to dominate streaming services, YouTube channels, and podcast charts nationwide.
But unlike many entertainment-driven productions, “The Silent Report” is being positioned as a public safety and awareness platform tied directly to Arizona law enforcement, advocacy organizations, and victims’ stories.
Each episode will reportedly feature conversations with detectives, survivors, victims’ advocates, and organizations working to keep Arizona cold cases active and in the public eye.
What Is Silent Witness?
Silent Witness has operated for decades as one of Arizona’s most recognized anonymous crime tip organizations, partnering with law enforcement agencies throughout the state to generate leads and tips connected to criminal investigations.
The organization said the new podcast is intended to strengthen community connection while giving a platform to stories that often fade from public attention over time.
The first episode of “The Silent Report” launches Friday, May 22, through Silent Witness social media channels and podcast platforms.
