PHOENIX — Seven people were rescued Thursday afternoon after experiencing heat-related difficulties while hiking on a well-known Arizona trail, according to officials.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said the rescue began after emergency crews responded to a call about two lost hikers near Devil’s Bridge Trail in Sedona. The pair had reportedly run out of water and became disoriented after taking a wrong turn.
Rescuers located the hikers and safely helped them back toward the trailhead.
Rescue expands as more hikers call for help
While assisting the initial two hikers, emergency crews were alerted to five additional hikers further up the trail also in need of help. Crews proceeded up the path, found the group, and guided them to a nearby vehicle, eventually returning them all safely to the trailhead.
All seven individuals were treated for heat-related symptoms but did not require hospitalization, authorities said.
No further details were released, but the incident serves as another reminder of the dangers posed by Arizona’s extreme summer heat — especially for hikers unprepared for high temperatures or unfamiliar with local terrain.
