September Family Events

The kids are back in school, but families can continue to enjoy the many great events taking place all over the valley during your down time.  Before the fun Fall festivities start, here is a list of some great family friend events for the month of September. 

September 12th through October 7: ‘The Frog Prince’ at Great Arizona Puppet Theater

September 22: Phoenix Children’s Festival

This free event is specifically geared towards kids ages 3-12 and features character visits, a Diaper Derby for Tots, themed Fun Zones, food trucks and more.

September 22: Free Admission to the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art

As part of the Smithsonian magazine’s 14th annual Museum Day, free admission is available to two people by downloading a ticket at Smithsonian.com/museumday.  One ticket per email address is permitted. Other participating museums include: Arizona Museum of Natural History in Mesa; Pueblo Grande Museum in Phoenix; i.d.e.a. Museum in Mesa.

Sept. 22: Brazilian Day Arizona Festival

Celebrate Brazilian Independence Day in the Valley. Listen to live Brazilian bands, watch colorfully-dressed dancers, and enjoy a variety of food and much more at this family-friendly and lively event.

September 23: Sunday in the Park Food Truck Festival

The festival in surprise invites all those who are fans of food trucks to enjoy the tasty options. The family event will feature live music by The Sugar Thieves.

September 28-29: Fiesta del Pueblo Viejo/Somos Peoria

Peoria is home to the Fiesta del Pueblo Viejo event that kicks off Somos Peoria held at Osuna Park. The family friend event hosts a custom car show, ballet folklorico, local bands and food and drinks. On Saturday, 2018 Somos Peoria takes place which includes a concert featuring Sheila E., Sunny Ozuna & the Sunliners and Tierra, as well as a cigar bar, an activity zone, traditional food and great shopping.

Fiesta del Pueblo Viejo is 5-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28.
Somos Peoria is 2-10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
Both are at Osuna Park, 83rd and Grand avenues in Old Town Peoria.

September 29: Fall Butterfly Exhibit

Desert Botanical Garden invite you to visit with the Monarch butterflies and some of their predatory insect friends this incredible annual event.

September 29: Father/Son Sports Fest

This annual event for sons and fathers / father figures will feature games, a sports contest, raffles and a visit from Baxter the Arizona Diamondbacks mascot. An All-American catered dinner is included and sports attire is recommended. Purchase limited tickets by Sept. 21 deadline by visiting Tolleson Recreation at 9555 W. Van Buren St. in Tolleson or Goodyear Recreation at 3075 N. Litchfield Road in Goodyear.

September 29: The Desert’s Most Dangerous Creatures

Do you like creepy, crawly things? Want to learn what is the most dangerous creature in the desert? Come find out in this indoor presentation at the Nature Center.

Now Through September 30: Phoenix Art Museum’s Free summer admission for kids

Now through Sept. 30, children younger than 18 are invited to visit the Phoenix Art Museum for free.

10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
10 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesdays; noon-5 p.m.
Sundays; 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Now Through March 2019: ‘Bodies Revealed’ at OdySea in the Desert

Get a view at what lies inside human bodies at the “Bodies Revealed” exhibit at OdySea in the Desert. This temporary exhibit includes more than 200 whole or partial body specimens that display bones, nerves, organs and muscles. This is a self-guided exhibit.
