Scottsdale’s beloved McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is rolling into its 50th anniversary with a fresh look and record-setting attendance.
Over the summer, the city completed a $13.1 million improvement project that introduced several highly anticipated features, including a 10,000-square-foot Roundhouse indoor play space, a 5,000-square-foot splash pad, and a redesigned entry plaza with shaded seating, public art, and upgraded amenities.
The enhancements were funded through a mix of voter-approved bond financing and support from the Scottsdale Railroad Mechanical Society, a nonprofit that has long provided technical expertise, volunteer work, and donations for the park.
The additions have already proven popular. Since debuting on August 1, the Roundhouse and splash pad have attracted more than 39,000 visitors, boosting summer attendance by 160% compared to last year.
The park officially celebrates its 50th birthday on Saturday, Oct. 4, with a Golden Jubilee as part of its annual Railfair weekend. The festivities will include live music, historical exhibits, kids’ activities, and a commemorative ceremony honoring the park’s history.
Seasonal favorites are also set to return in 2025, including:
Halloween Spook-Track-ula (Oct. 10–31) – a family-friendly haunted train ride.
Holiday Lights (Nov. 29–Dec. 30) – a dazzling display of lights and holiday cheer.
Noon Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) – a daytime New Year’s celebration featuring music, activities, and a “noon” countdown.
“McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has always been a place where generations come together,” said Stephanie Tippett, parks and recreation manager. “To unveil these major improvements the same year the park turns 50 is incredible for both our staff and community.”
