Scottsdale Police Arrest Juvenile Accused of Posting Online Threat to Coronado High School

Officials say the boy acted alone; school to see increased police presence

Scottsdale police arrested a juvenile over the weekend after he allegedly sent an online threat directed at Coronado High School, authorities said Sunday.

Investigators say the boy wrote a brief, one-sentence message and delivered it through a direct message to a social media account associated with the campus near Miller Road and Virginia Avenue. Detectives and patrol officers determined he had acted alone and did not possess the capability to carry out the threat.

The student now faces criminal charges as the investigation continues. Police plan to increase their presence on campus Monday as a precaution.

In a statement, Scottsdale police spokesperson Aaron Bolin emphasized that threats against schools—regardless of intent—are treated with urgency and can lead to serious legal repercussions. He urged students and community members not to share or circulate threatening posts but instead report them directly to law enforcement. Guidance on reporting school-related threats is available through the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Safe Schools program(https://www.azdps.gov/services/safeschools).
