A two-vehicle collision in north Scottsdale left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries Friday morning, prompting a traffic investigation at Pima and Pinnacle Peak roads.
Scottsdale police said the crash occurred around 9:20 a.m. and involved a T-bone-type impact between two cars. One occupant was taken to a nearby hospital and later died from their injuries. Another person in the same vehicle remained hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or explained what led to the collision. The department’s Vehicular Crimes and Reconstruction Unit is examining the crash scene and working to determine how the vehicles collided.
The investigation will likely focus on factors such as traffic signals, vehicle speeds and the actions of both drivers before the impact. The fatal crash also highlights the risks at high-traffic intersections, where a side-impact collision can cause severe injuries even when only two vehicles are involved.
