Scottsdale Appoints Joe LeDuc as Permanent Police Chief

Veteran officer promoted after serving as interim chief since January

PHOENIX — The city of Scottsdale has officially named Joe LeDuc as the new permanent chief of police, according to an announcement from the Scottsdale Police Department on Monday.

City Manager Greg Caton appointed LeDuc to the position after he served as interim chief since January. LeDuc, a department veteran, began his career with Scottsdale PD in 1991 and has worked across a wide range of roles throughout his tenure.

Over the years, he served as a patrol officer, property crimes detective, homicide detective, and a member of the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force. His leadership experience includes overseeing the special victim’s unit, internal affairs, and the special investigations section.

LeDuc was also a commander for two police districts and the municipal jail, before being promoted to assistant chief in 2021. In that role, he worked closely with former Chief Jeff Walther and other city divisions to support community policing efforts.

His service has earned him numerous honors, including Police Superior Performance Awards, the Meritorious Service Award, the Community Policing Award, and the Marksmanship Award.

LeDuc’s appointment solidifies the department’s leadership as Scottsdale continues navigating public safety initiatives and community engagement efforts.
