PHOENIX, Ariz. — Keanu Rudy Dude, 25, a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, has been charged with arsonfor allegedly causing the Watch Fire that scorched over 2,000 acres on the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation in July 2024, federal authorities announced Friday.
Dude was arrested following an indictment issued by a federal grand jury in Phoenix. He is set to make his initial court appearance on Monday, February 24, 2025.
Fire Caused Widespread Damage and Mass Evacuations
The Watch Fire led to the destruction of 21 homes and forced the evacuation of more than 400 families from the reservation and surrounding areas. The fire burned tribal land, causing significant damage to both private property and natural resources.
