San Carlos Apache Tribe Donates Ponderosa Pine for Arizona Capitol Christmas Tree

Gifted Tree Celebrates Tribal Heritage and Arizona’s Natural Beauty

PHOENIX — This year’s Arizona Capitol Christmas tree is a stunning Ponderosa pine, generously provided by the San Carlos Apache Tribe.

The tree, harvested from the Point of Pines area northeast of Globe, was selected in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. Originally standing 40 feet tall, the tree was trimmed to 20 feet to fit within the Capitol rotunda in downtown Phoenix.

“We are honored to receive a tree from a tribal nation for the second year in a row,” Gov. Katie Hobbs said in a press release. “As we deepen relationships with tribal communities, this tree celebrates the vibrant cultures that make Arizona so special.”

The San Carlos Apache Reservation, home to one of the world’s largest contiguous stands of Ponderosa pine, lies at an elevation above 5,000 feet, where the evergreen thrives.

“We know this tree will be used to spread holiday warmth and cheer, and it is our hope that it will further serve as a reminder of the natural beauty that exists within our great state and the deep roots the San Carlos Apache have in this region,” said Terry Rambler, chairman of the tribe.

The decorated tree is now on display at the Arizona Capitol, with a lighting ceremony scheduled for Monday. The tree serves as a symbol of holiday spirit and a tribute to Arizona’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
