Safford Councilman Running For House of Representatives Suspends Campaign After Drug Overdose

A Safford city councilman running for the U.S. House of Representatives announced the suspension of his campaign following a drug overdose.

Chris Taylor posted on his Facebook page Monday morning that he would be suspending his campaign to seek treatment for a substance abuse problem after he recently relapsed and overdosed.

“I will fully cooperate with local authorities on any matters arising from my recent relapse and overdose. Please respect the privacy of my wife and children as we deal with this situation,” the post stated.

Taylor is a veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan. He said he was thankful for the resources available to him through the Veterans Affairs Administration and that he was seeking treatment after having “so many solid years of sobriety.”

Taylor was seeking the Republican nomination for U.S. Congressional District 1. The district is currently represented by Rep. Tom O’Halleran.
